The most under-rated trophy elk hunting area in all of North America is Northern British Columbia in Region Seven. We have been booking our clients on hunts there for the last seven years so this was not a new hunting area for us – in fact 99% of our clients to date have returned home with six point bulls with one hunter being the exception. However we have just returned from our own personal hunt there in this area and we were blown away by the sheer numbers of elk and the quality of the bulls in this area. The diversity of the terrain and the volume of game throughout the entire area will allow us to customize an elk hunt for almost anyone. The majority of the hunting is done by horseback and all of the horses were well broke and trained, but hunters wishing to hike during their hunt can do so as well. They have a five star lodge, nice back country base camps (cabins), and really remote spike camps (mostly cabins) in some of the finest elk habitat I have ever been in before. Nowhere else have I seen so many elk with such quality – my comparison is Colorado population with New Mexico trophy quality. We have five, seven, and ten day elk hunts available, however we highly recommend that you book a combination elk & moose hunt on anything longer than a five day package. The area has good numbers of not only elk but also moose, goat, and mountain caribou. Bull elk are commonly taken in the 275-325 B&C size class with a few larger elk taken every year. The average elk size last season was 315 B&C and the long term average is 300 B&C. Hunters can book for any dates between August 15th and October 15th and expect to do well in this area, there are just that many elk. There are not many places that can boast a size average like this without being in a limited draw area! If you want a high quality elk hunting adventure call and ask us about this hunt. It was bar none the best hunt we have been on in a while – and watch for our hunts on the Steve’s Outdoor Adventures television show!

Kootenai Region - British Columbia
This is another excellent elk hunting option in British Columbia. Most hunters go out by horseback, hunting either from the main lodge or back country cabins in the wilderness. The area has excellent population densities and trophy quality with most bulls being in the 300 B&C size class. They have however taken a few larger class elk over the years so upper end trophy quality is possible. Success rates have run in the 80% range for the long term and most hunters have opportunity at a bull elk during their ten day hunts. We offer three ten day hunting packages each year – Sept 9-18, Sept 21-30, and October 3-12 with each hunt being about the same for quality. Each week is limited to four to six hunters maximum and everyone is guided 1x1 to maximize hunter opportunity. Elk hunters can option to add mountain caribou as a combination species. Mule deer, black bear, and some whitetail can also be hunted in combination as well. Call for details on the combination hunting. This is an ideal location for hunters wanting to drive to their hunt as it is not far north of the US-Canadian Border and the lodge is easily accessed by vehicles. Contact our office if you are interested in discussing this as your next elk hunting adventure!

Montana Elk Hunts
Hunters who want to have a high rate of success but a little better odds for trophy quality than in Colorado should look at Montana as an immediate option. We book our clients onto the best private lands areas in the state possible and with a couple of reputable outfitters with whom we have had a lot of success in recent years. Montana’s guaranteed outfitter license/tag program allows our clients to carry a deer tag in combination on all hunts and in some cases our clients have taken home big bucks as well as bulls. Our two main properties are totally different from each other but they have one thing in common – exceptionally good outfitters.
Gallatin Mountains Ranch
This property is located just 30 miles north of Yellowstone Park but does not have a migrating elk herd. This is an excellent regional elk herd that stays here all year. At any time you are on the ranch you are within a ten mile radius of between 800-1000 elk. This means you do not have to get winter weather conditions to be successful in taking a mature elk + the later November dates always produce a big mule deer or two for our clients. The ranch is limited to six hunters per week throughout the rifle season and our long term success on bull elk has been 75%. Hunters stay in a wall tent camp with wood floors, wood stove heaters, and a main cook tent. Hunters get around the ranch on foot, by ATV, or in 4wd trucks. This has been our top producing Montana elk hunt for the last few years, call us for details.
