If you want an alternative to hunting over bait for color phase black bears the interior regions of British Columbia are hard to beat. Here there are extremely high densities of black bears with a 40% or better percentage of color phase bruins harvested every spring. All hunting is done exclusively by spot and stalk hunting along a large lake, in high country areas, and also along old logging roads. This is probably one of the little known destinations of world class black bear hunting. Not only does Wyoming have a lot of black bears but the region sports a high percentage of color phase bears as well. This hunt is unique in that most of the baits are accessed by horseback deep inside roadless areas. This is not a good hunt for archery hunters as the stands are often set up 100-125 yards from the ground blinds across draws and ravines. However it is a superb rifle hunt – check out this hunt!
