The Northwest Territories of Canada is located east of the Yukon. This extremely remote and wild region of Canada is home to some of the most fabulous moose hunting in all of North America. The moose found here are of the Alaskan-Yukon sub-species of moose which are the largest in the world. Our clients get to our base camp by flying into Ft Simpson, NWT through Edmonton, Alberta. Once they arrive in Ft Simpson we drive them to the river and then jet boat many miles upstream to the base of operations. While we do offer some jet boat hunts for moose in the river cooridor the real attraction is the helicopter access to extremely remote areas in their exclusive guide territory. The helicopter makes it possible to land in places airplanes cannot and right in the prime hunting areas. Hunter and guide and dropped off to spike camp and hunt in pre-scouted drainages the next day. Our hunter success has been 100% since we started offering this hunt and the bulls have averaged 60” in size with some larger than 65” taken every year. And there is nothing like watching your moose go away in a net under a helicopter instead of on your back!
It should be noted that this area will not be open to hunting forever – at this time the Canadian Government is attempting to settle on purchase prices with the region’s outfitters. They wish to turn the area into a national park. This would mean no more hunting – at this time we are booking hunters through the 2010 season and space is limited because it could be their last year outfitting in that area.
