For hunters who want to see a lot of bears and book what is often called a “gentleman’s brown bear hunt” we strongly suggest our SE Alaska hunts in the ABC Islands which are comprised of Admiralty Island, Baranof Island, and Chichagof Island. Here we have the ability to customize a hunting package to fit our client’s needs individually by hunting either from an extremely remote tented camp which is modern and extremely comfortable, or from a comfortable and large boat. Each day hunters go out by zodiac or small skiff and slowly cruise miles and miles of shoreline glassing for bears as they come out to feed on the exposed shorelines at low tide. These bears are deep and dark chocolate in color making them very unique. They live in an old growth rain forest and the only way to hunt them is when they are out on the open shorelines or at the mouth of the salmon streams. Normally bears are spotted from the boat, hunters go to the beach, and then a stalk is made on the bear. In some cases we set up ambushes on the salmon streams but only in the fall when the bears are concentrated on the fish. There are no mountains to climb and the physical requirements to complete this hunt are low – it is perfect for the hunters who no longer possess mountaineering skills or desire to hunt the more difficult brown bear areas. We are allocated only a handful of permits each year and we hunt primarily in the spring between – May 1 and May 20 and then again in the fall between September 15 and October 15.
