This hunt is with an outfitter that has their own wheel planes. They fly into their base camp on wheels and then backpack into the mountains to spike camp locations from there each week. They have the only base camp and air strip in the immediate area and resident hunters do not venture here very often due to the remote nature of the camps. By avoiding lakes and water where float planes can land they have avoided the air taxi charters that drop of resident hunters. This is very, very important for anyone considering an Alaskan dall sheep hunt - avoid the other non-guided, or in some cases guided, hunters also hunting sheep. Because this outfitter has an extensive and remote base camp (structures) and their own aircraft with extensive resources these hunts cost more than the float plane access hunts. And their rams on average have been larger. This guide also participates in State of Alaska dall sheep research projects and spends a tremendous amount of time learning as much as he can about dall sheep and the sheep in his area! The area also has exceptional numbers of moose and grizzly bear and combination hunts are available on a limited basis. You would do well to book this hunt... they only take a few hunters each year so booking in advance is important!
